SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly demanding immediate disqualification of Dr Adviser Pariong as Member of the House.

In a letter submitted to the Speaker, HSPDP president Hoping Stone Lyngdoh said that Dr Pariong has been fielded by the Congress party as its candidate from Nongstoin constituency without having resigned from the HSPDP.

Lyngdoh, while quoting the Tenth Schedule, said that Dr Pariong has to cease to be a member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from the date of his having resigned from the HSPDP and forfeit all privileges due to a legislator who completes his/her full term of five years, should he fail to return as an MLA in the 2013-18 term.

“His letter of resignation from primary membership of the HSPDP was received by the party president only on January 10, though it is dated January 4,” the letter added.

It may be mentioned that Dr Pariong was elected MLA in February 2008 from the erstwhile Pariong constituency as an HSPDP candidate securing 8225 votes.

This time around, Dr Pariong is scheduled to contest the election from Nongstoin constituency on a Congress ticket and is pitted against his mentor and HSPDP supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.
