Agartala: In-fighting between two aspiring candidates of Congress has left six persons injured while the administration has set up temporary police pickets in Khayerpur area of eastern part of Agartala.

The situation turned violent on Wednesday with the report of changing of candidate in Khayerpur leading the angry supporters of both the group into fighting.

Tension spread in most of the Assembly constituencies soon after announcement of the candidates of Congress for upcoming Assembly poll.

The erring supporters had ransacked Congress offices and burnt down the party flags.

A few of them threatened to contest in the election as independent candidates.

But in case of Khayerpur, the situation went out of control because AICC had declared Pradesh Congress spokesperson and former minister Ratan Chakraborty as candidate of the party in Khayerpur but later reportedly as per Rahul Gandhi’s choice Baptu Chakraborty was considered to be replaced in the constituency that triggered serious resentment in the party.

Police remained spectator even as the miscreants continued with their carnage in full media glare. It was only after DSP Central rushed to the spot that the situation was brought under control.

Even as Ratan Chakraborty, had remained confined to his residence some miscreants went on the rampage in Khayerpur Congress office in broad daylight. Soon after, the miscreants fled from the spot.

After that Baptu supporters went to the spot and took control of the situation.

By evening when the confirmation of his nomination was received marches were brought out by his supporters. With the spread of tension both Pradesh Congress President Sudip Roy Barman and leader of the opposition Ratan Lal Nath had left for Delhi on Wednesday evening to discuss the situation. (UNI)
