SHILLONG: An NGO, Council for the protection of Civil Rights has alleged deficiency in the supply of foodstuffs under the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
In a letter submitted to the Principal Secretary of the Social Welfare Department on Thursday, the council had said that every child in the age group of 3-6 years should get Choco Malt on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday which should be 120-140 grams per day.
However, according to council, the Government is supplying a mere 13 grams per day which is a clear violation of the mandate.
According to the letter, expecting mothers should also get 160-180 grams of Choco Malt but the truth is that they are only getting 20 grams per day.
“The present doing of the concerned department is against the Affidavit filed in the Supreme Court and the official statement made on the floor of the Assembly,” the letter added.
The council while asking for the sufficient quantity with adequate nutrition to be provided to the children and pregnant mothers, also demanded immediate actions against the erring officials concern.
