SHILLONG, Nov 6: The construction of the much-needed LPG bottling plant in the state may begin soon as the proposal is in the final stages of being approved by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
Presently, the LPG cylinders in Meghalaya are brought from Assam. Since Meghalaya does not have a bottling plant, it often leads to the scarcity of LPG cylinders.
Once the state gets the bottling plant, the prices of LPG cylinders may also get reduced marginally as transportation charges will be less.
Recently, the IOCL had written to the Meghalaya government stating that it had undertaken the project of setting up a new LPG bottling plant of 30 TMTPA capacity in Umiam.
However, due to high gradient of the proposed site, the final leveling had to be reworked at various phases considering the suitability and positioning of the storage vessels and allied facilities and also easy maneuvering of LPG bullets and cylinder trucks. (Contd on P-4)
