SHILLONG, Nov 10: Incumbent Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and recently-elected National People’s Party (NPP) MLA from Mawryngkneng, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, on Wednesday said that he is “more than happy” to let NPP MDC from Mawphlang, Lamphrang Blah, succeed him as Chairman of the KHADC, even as he left it up to the NPP central leadership to take the final call on the matter.
Talking to reporters, Syiem said that the decision will be taken by NPP national president, Conrad K Sangma, national vice president, Prestone Tynsong and senior party leader, Sniawbhalang Dhar. “I would be more than happy to allow Blah to take the chairman’s post,” Pyniaid Sing Syiem, who is also the NPP MDC from Sohryngkham, said.
He also informed that the matter was discussed in NPP’s parliamentary party meeting of KHADC MDCs on Wednesday.
“None of the party MDCs has any problem if Blah takes over the post of chairman since he is very senior MDC,” the Mawryngkneng MLA said.
He said that the party MDCs also met the Council’s Chief Executive Member (CEM), Titosstarwell Chyne, for appointment of Lamphrang Blah as the chairman of the Advisory Committee until any new arrangement is made within the party.
“We are happy that the KHADC CEM has accepted our request,” Syiem said.
The Sohryngkham MDC also informed that Blah will enjoy all benefits which are enjoyed by the MDCs of the ruling coalition, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), in the KHADC.
Besides Syiem and Blah, the NPP MDCs who attended the parliamentary meeting include Gigur Myrthong, Mitchel Wankhar, Victor Rani and Rangkynsai Kharbuki.
