NONGPOH, Dec 2: After receiving complaints from several quarters on poor implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Umroi area, the Ri Bhoi Students Union on Thursday filed an RTI application with the PHE Department, Umroi Sub Division seeking clarification and answers on the matter.
Speaking to media persons, president of the union, Amberlight Masharing, said that the union was compelled to file an RTI as a result of complaints alleging irregularities regarding the implementation of the JJM project in Umroi area.
Masharing elucidated that the Union has received several complaints about households not getting the tap water connection in spite of the fact that the project has been completed in some villages.
A section of complaints said that some contractors are not cooperating with the village authority or the Village Water Sanitation Committee (VWSC), and instead implement the project as per their conveniences and benefits, Masharing said.
He pointed out that there were also complaints about use of sub-standard quality materials during the implementation of the project.
“Therefore, in a bid to clear all doubts against the alleged irregularities and complaints, the Union, for the benefit of the people at large, has decided to file an RTI with the PHE department of Umroi Sub Division seeking answers to these complaints,” he added.
