Awareness programmes on e-SHRAM in Shillong, Tura

SHILLONG/TURA, Dec 6: A meeting-cum-awareness programme was on Monday organised by the Labour department at Yojana Bhavan, encompassing all aspects of the e-SHRAM portal and registration of unorganised workers. Labour Minister Sanbor Shullai presided over the programme as the chief guest and was well received by members of the Dorbar Shnong, village councils, CCMTs and welfare committees.
Addressing the gathering, Shullai stressed on the importance of registering unorganised workers on the portal, so that they can access social security and welfare schemes.
Informing that under the scheme, registered workers are entitled to receiving free accidental insurance under Prime Minister Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), he further called upon all stakeholders to help facilitate the registration process for the workers. Notably, the free accidental insurance under PMSBY is said to cover an amount of Rs two lakh in case of accidental death and permanent disability, and Rs one lakh for partial disability for a year.

A similar meeting was also held in Tura during which West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh urged the concerned department to implement e-SHRAM by constituting a district-level implementation committee. The members of the said committee for each district comprise Deputy Commissioner as Chairperson, Deputy Labour Commissioner or Assistant Labour Commissioner as Member Secretary, Chief Executiveg Officer, Municipal Board, District Coordinator, Common Service Centres, District Informatics Officer, Branch Manager, LIC, one officer nominated by Ministry of Labour & Unemployment, at district level among other district officials.
In addition to e-SHRAM registration, the district task force members also discussed other issues relating to child labour and vaccination campaign during the meeting.
