USTM, PNB to support education needs of rural children

Guwahati, Jan 4: In a novel initiative of corporate-institutional collaboration, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Guwahati zonal office, has joined hands with the University of Science And Technology Meghalaya (USTM) to work for the educational development of the rural children of villages near the university.

Shio Shankar Singh, general manager cum zonal manager of Punjab National Bank, Guwahati announced that the bank would provide educational support to girls in Jorbil, a village adopted by USTM recently.

The announcement was made during a felicitation programme for 20 faculty members of USTM for their recent research publications in UGC care listed journals.

Addressing the programme, Singh, who is also the chairman of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank said, “Bank and a university can really work together in a unique way for the transformation of the society. We can take up education for every girl child in the village.”

He expressed his gratitude to USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque for his constant support and encouragement to the underprivileged rural students of the region for their educational benefit.

At the same function, USTM extended a gesture to encourage research and innovation as Chancellor Hoque felicitated the 20 faculty members with certificates and cash rewards.

The chancellor also announced that from now onwards, on the first Saturday of every month, the university would carry on this initiative for overall development of research and innovation in the university.

Hoque emphasised that every department of the university would be contributing to different aspects for the development of the ideal village adopted by USTM.
