WGH DEO issues poll directives

TURA: The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi on Monday issued a notification that the Election Commission of India has directed all electors to produce their EPIC for establishing their identity before casting their votes in the upcoming February 23 polls in Meghalaya.

Bakshi informed that under the given provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 & Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 the Election Commission of India vide letter No.3/4/ID/2013/SDR/(MEG), and forwarded vide letter No.3/4/ID/2013/SDR(MEG) directs all electors in each of the 60 Assembly Constituencies in Meghalaya for the general election notified on January 30 to produce their EPIC for establishing their identity before casting their vote.

Electors who fail to produce his/her EPIC will have to produce the ‘Authenticated Photo Voter Slip’ being issued door to door by the Booth Level Officers for identification in the polling station and overseas electors shall have to produce their original passport only for identification.

The District Election Officer also informed that additional ‘Authenticated Photo Voter Slip’ shall also be issued to the electors by the Booth Level Officers in their Facilitation Booth for Voters’ Slip in their respective polling station on the day of poll.

He further said that this gesture by the Election Commission of India is being carried out in the interest of the general public or electors to exercise their voting rights.
