Guwahati, Jan 5: After empowering village communities to monitor animal movement during floods in the fringe areas of national parks in Assam, Aaranyak, a premier biodiversity research and conservation organisation, is now assisting frontline forest staff in the river island of Majuli to overcome various challenges while exercising their duties.

As part of its sustained efforts to extend support and complement the efforts of government agencies to conserve the region’s wildlife resources and habitats, Aaranyak on Tuesday provided field gear to over 26 frontline staff members of Majuli Forest Division.

Essential field gear such as raincoats, charge-lights, jungle boots and sweaters were distributed among the forest staff members at a function held at Sri Sri Madhavdev Kristi Kendra, Garmur in Majuli district.

“The equipment shall assist these frontline forest staff to deliver their best to contribute towards conservation of wildlife and their habitats in the river island in Assam,” an official statement issued here on Wednesday said.

Addressing the function, divisional forest officer Jayram Borah conveyed special his gratitude to Aaranyak for extending support to the forest staff working relentlessly to protect the rich biodiversity of the division.

Aaranyak had last month distributed similar equipment among village defence parties (VDPs) from the neighbouring villages of Orang National Park who have been playing a crucial role in helping the Park authority to keep rhino poachers at bay.
