SHILLONG, Jan 10: The tussle between GVK EMRI 108 service and its agitating employees over job security has continued despite the city being in the midst of the pandemic. An official from GVK EMRI 108 service said 15 to 20 employees are holding the emergency services to ransom by spreading misinformation.
Stating that an average 15% overall pay hike was given in December 2019, the official said the new salary has been approved under which the revised minimum CTC will be over Rs 19,000 for the field staff. It is said to have been effective from October last year and disbursed along with the salary of January.
“They are talking about job security. Had there been no job security, we would not have had people with long service tenures,” the official said.
He said 35% of the employees have completed 10-12 years. It is 41% for the field staff with 5-10 years of service tenure, he added.
An estimated 76% of the field staff have worked for 5-13 years, the official said, adding, they have grown in the organisation and if there were no job security, people would not have worked for long. “They have benefits such as PF, gratuity, insurance, ESIC coverage. Are these not job security components?” the official argued.
He said some people and NGOs are supporting the agitating employees without knowing facts. By doing so, they are putting the jobs of 300 people in danger, he said.
At the same time however, the official said it is natural that with a project’s termination, all of them will lose their job and a new tender and new setup may not guarantee jobs to them.
