SHILLONG: Meghalaya is all set to benefit from the 215-kilometre long Silchar-Byrnihat section of the 400 kv dc Palatana-Bongaigaon transmission line which was commissioned on March 1.

The project is a joint venture of PowerGrid, OTPC (Tripura Power Company) and

governments of northeastern states.

It would facilitate evacuation of power from the 726.6 mw gas based combined cycle power project of OTPC in Palatana, Tripura.

It may be mentioned that in September, 2012 NETC had commissioned Palantana-Silchar 400 kv dc transmission line.

On commissioning of Silchar-Byrnihat section now the power from the project can be effectively evacuated through the 400KV substations at Silchar and Byrnihat for the benefit of the North Eastern states.
