JOWAI, Feb 21: Appealing to the Jaintia youths to compete for the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) Examination, the Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) has issued an ultimatum to the Deputy Commissioners of West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills to set up government coaching centres for civil service examinations.
The JSM has issued a deadline of March 11 to the authorities of the two districts, failing which they have said that they will resort to agitation.
According to president, JSM central body, LS Rymbai, the group has submitted a memorandum to the two deputy commissioners for setting up coaching centres for exams like MCS, MPS and civil service prelims in Jowai and Khliehriat for the benefit of the local students here.
Highlighting that there is immense need to counsel students for these state as well as central competitive exams like the UPSC, the group mentioned that the dwindling number of exam applicants is a disheartening fact, even after 50 years of Meghalaya’s statehood.
The JSM also apprised the two DCs that the Meghalaya Public Service Commission is yet to conduct the written examination of Meghalaya Police Service and the recruitment for Civil Service Prelims is also underway.
In this regard, the JSM also urged the seven MLAs of Jaintia Hills region to take up this matter with the government at the earliest.
