3 held with large cache of explosives in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, Feb 25: Ri-Bhoi Police on Thursday arrested three persons and seized a huge consignment of explosives from an SUV (AS01 BE 3800) during naka checking conducted at Byrnihat Outpost in coordination with the Assam Rifles.
Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad said police received a tip-off on Thursday afternoon that some persons were travelling from Khliehriat in an unidentified vehicle carrying explosives.
Accordingly, a team from the Ri-Bhoi Police led by the DSP (Crime) and headed by the in-charge of Byrnihat Outpost, set up a check post in coordination with the Assam Rifles.
The vehicle was intercepted at around 11:30 pm and during search, nine cartons of gelatine sticks weighing approximately 210 kg were recovered in addition to 50 instantaneous electric detonators and 2,000 ordinary detonators, the SP said.
Police arrested the three occupants of the SUV and filed a criminal case at Nongpoh police station under the Explosives Substances Act, he added.
