SHILLONG, Feb 26: Amid uproar over the appointment of Rakesh Sangma as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and the subsequent clamour for his ouster, the State BJP has come out in support of the demand for his ouster.
When asked for an opinion, Meghalaya BJP president, Ernest Mawrie, said that the party karyakartas and members support the move to remove Rakesh Sangma from his chair.
Enquired if this stand would affect party’s relations with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Mawrie said that the coalition in District Council and state are two different issues.
To further his point, he stated that BJP members in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) were in the opposition side, adding that even in the GHADC, one of the members of BJP was put in the executive member’s seat while another member was in the opposition.
It may be recalled that the Garo Hills region has witnessed large-scale protests after Rakesh Sangma was appointed as the CEM. After this opposition, Rakesh Sangma is reportedly set to resign from his post on Monday.
