World Consumer Day observed in State

SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the country, World Consumer Rights Day was observed at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, South-West Garo Hills in Ampati on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Benoy Bhushan Marak, a senior citizen and father of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, urged people of the area to be aware of their rights and duties as consumers. He also stressed on the need to obtain vouchers and cash memos for every purchase.

Deputy Commissioner (SWGH) Ram Singh deliberated at length on the role of the consumers while, ADC PK Boro, highlighted the aims and objectives of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and the World Consumers Rights Day.

World Consumer Right Day was also observed at Trysem Hall, Nongstoin where EAC MA Challam, chief guest, highlighted on the Consumer Act, 1986.

The function was also attended by ADM of West Khasi Hills PD Sangma, inspector of Supply, sub-inspector of supply, all the staff of the supply department, headmen and students from various schools.

World Consumer Day is being observed all over the country in order to generate public awareness on the rights and privileges of a buyer while spreading the message of business ethics.
