SHILLONG, March 11: Dumping of solid waste along the stretch of Umkhen river, East Khasi Hills, has been prohibited under an order under Section 144 CrPC issued by the in-charge District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills.
The order was necessitated in view of the reports that solid waste is being dumped indiscriminately in the river and along certain stretches of Wah Rting and other drainage connected to Umkhen. Such act of polluting the river, if allowed to continue, is likely to cause health hazards and also affect the environment of the area, the district magistrate said in the order.
