SHILLONG, March 11: Suspended Congress MLA from Nongpoh, Mayralborn Syiem, on Friday questioned the delay in completion of the trauma centre at Nongpoh Civil Hospital, and called upon the state government to operationalise it by this year.
Responding to this issue, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui informed the House that the physical and financial progress of the trauma centre, taken up under the ‘Capacity Building for Development of Trauma Care Facility in National Highways’ under centrally sponsored schemes, is 75 per cent. At present, the building is utilised as COVID ward and district COVID laboratory, he added.
Enquired about the total cost of the project and the actual timeline for its completion, Rymbui said that the cost of the building alone is Rs 1 crore, while the cost of equipment is Rs 2.40 crore and communication is Rs 250 lakh besides other costs amounting to Rs 60,000, which totals to Rs 3.06 crore.
On the timeline for project completion, Rymbui said since the building is used for care of COVID patients, it may take some time.
Mayralborn Syiem further questioned the minister about the progress of the operation theatre at the trauma centre, to which Rymbui did not have the required information at hand, and sought a prior notice on the subject.
“As soon as the work is complete, we will try to operationalise it,” replied Rymbui.
