Govt to set up aqua parks

SHILLONG: The Government is planning to set up aqua parks in several parts of the State as part of the aqua culture mission.

In a written statement tabled in the House to a question raised by Nongthymmai MLA Jemino Mawthoh (UDP), regarding the features of aqua culture mission, the Chief Minister said that under the mission, a community pond at Ja-Ud, East Khasi Hills is being developed into an aqua park in partnership with Soil and Water Conservation Department. He also added that development of aqua parks in

different districts have been taken up for implementation during 2012-13 and sanctions for the same have been conveyed.

The statement also mentioned that a total of 5,618 individual fish ponds of 0.1 hectares have been sanctioned by the Government under the mission to cover a water area of 56.18 hectares in the State.

According to statement, the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank has already issued sanctions for 4,328 ponds, for the first installment and the total amount sanctioned is Rs 33.10.crore.
