RESUBELPARA, March 19: Thousands of people from the village of Dainadubi, on Saturday, rallied in support of their demand to create a new C&RD Block in the village. The rally comes even as North Garo Hills (NGH) will see the creation of a new block at Damas in the coming days. Incidentally, Damas is about 10 kilometres from the village of Dainadubi.
The rally was led by members of the Dainadubi C&RD Block Demand Committee which consists of people from around the area. The committee was formed in November 2016.
The demand committee has sought the carving up of the two Blocks (Kharkutta and Resubelpara) for the formation of the Dainadubi one. The new Block could comprise 103 villages with about 6,488 households and a population of about 47,501.
“Dainadubi is strategically located between Kharkutta and Resubelpara and it would be better for all concerned that it is made the C&RD Block centre. It will bring development closer to people of our area,” said president of the committee, Jaffrey G Momin.
Various petitions seeking the set up of the Block at Dainadubi to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, as well as to Prestone Tynsong, S Dhar and local MLAs of the area were sent earlier.
“We had got a verbal confirmation from them on the formation of a C&RD Block in Dainadubi but nothing more has been taken up. We rallied today to show that we will not rest until the demand for the Block is completed,” added secretary, GD Shira.
Prior to the rally, a meeting was held at the Bangsi Apal School Playground where the leaders of the demand committee spoke on the demand and its progress to the people gathered.
