SHILLONG, March 20: The state government launched the Meghalaya Youth Engagement and Training Programme under Aspire Meghalaya, a flagship initiative aimed at building aspirations, career readiness and life preparedness in youths, across the districts to capture the voice of the youths and gather insights needed to develop better youth development strategies.
The programme, an initiative of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and supported by Education department’s Directorate of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), is being implemented by Meghalaya-based organisation AVENUES.
This exercise is the state’s largest ever on-ground youth engagement, marking Meghalaya’s 50th year of statehood and is the first of its kind in Northeast India, a statement issued here said.
To mark the beginning of the first phase, orientation programmes were held simultaneously across districts that saw participation of over 290 campuses, represented by over 550 teachers, in order to help them drive the youth survey on the ground across 12 districts for a projected respondent base of 50,000 adolescent youths.
The 10 domains featured in the survey are culture and tradition; education & skills development; sports, talents and careers; financial awareness and entrepreneurship; inclusion, engagement and leadership; gender equality; quality of life; health and well-being; cyber citizenship and environment.
