SHILLONG, March 21: The Justice (retd) RN Mishra-headed three-member committee, probing alleged corruption and illegalities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), is expected to submit its report to the state government within this month.
An official of the state government said on Monday that the committee held several meetings over the draft report and is now working on finalising it.
Given that it has not sought any extension of time, the official hoped the report will be submitted by March 31.
Recently, Power Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, had told the Assembly that the committee is preparing the report for submission before March 31.
The inquiry pertains to procurement, aggregate transmission and commercial or AT&C losses, implementation of the Saubhagya scheme and human resources management.
Retired IAS officer Manoj Kumar is the committee’s administrative member while retired executive director of the Rural Electrification Corporation, Sunil Kumar is its technical member.
The committee has so far held 18 sittings and invited interested persons to depose before it. The panel also met some officials of the MeECL and sought required documents.
