Prog on input distribution for quality ginger production

TURA, April 16: The office of the District Horticulture Officer, West Garo Hills, recently organised a programme on input distribution for quality ginger production under Ginger Mission, Spice Development Scheme 2022-2023, at Horti-Hub, Rongram.
The programme was attended by the adviser to the Chief Minister, Thomas A Sangma, Vice-Chairman of MCCL , Dabo M Marak, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Thomas touched upon various problems faced by the ginger farmers, some of which include lack of market linkages and reasonable prices.
He said the Ginger Mission has been started by the government with an aim to provide all necessary help to the ginger farmers in the state.
Thomas also stressed on the need to attract high-profile traders so that farmers are able to avail reasonable prices for ginger.
The Chairman of Tura Municipal Board, JD Sangma, on the other hand, highlighted the medicinal values of ginger, and informed that the demand for ginger from Garo Hills is high in Dubai and China.
Assistant Director of Horticulture, West Garo Hills, Paulette A Sangma, in her keynote address, informed that there are 1,200 ginger farmers in the district who had taken up farming.
