Shillong city has earned the name of ‘Scotland of the East’ owing to its scenic beauty and favourable weather conditions. Though, the same reference does not hold the same sensibility in modern times, thanks to rapid urbanisation. Looking back in time, one can say with 
certainty that Shillong has been one of the more favourable hill station getaways for British officers and soldiers. The evidence being the establishment and construction of several heritage buildings that have stood the test of time.

A marvel on its own, the Shillong Golf Club is located atop an undulating valley, overlooking the spectacular and breath-taking 18-hole Golf Course which is one of 
the oldest, largest, and finest natural golf circuits in the world. The Golf Club was constructed in the year 1898 by the British to accommodate officers and golf enthusiasts in the days of yore. The magnificent Club House reminds one of its colonial heritage, nestled in the lap of nature. With 
a majestic and sprawling lawn, the Club House radiates a serene and calm atmosphere, everytime one steps foot in the premises.
The Golf Club is home to about 80 to 100 golfers and is affiliated with many renowned clubs across the world including Bangladesh, Dubai, Nepal, and
Australia. In India, the Shillong Golf Club has affiliations with clubs in Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Maharashtra and many others.
What a beauty, indeed! The heritage Shillong Golf Club is a hidden gem positioned in the lush and green-carpet golf course, which on visiting the place, will remind one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s poem “A Lay of the Links”.
