NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP, Nongstoin Circle on Wednesday called for a road blockade on the route from Nonbah Bridge to Sohpian in Nongstoin on April 9 due to the alleged indifference of the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads) in repairing the road.
“The Federation’s has made repeated requests to the EE PWD (Roads) to repair the seven kilometre stretch between Nongstoin and Sohpian along the NH 44 (E). The road has been causing a lot of inconvenience to the commuters,” the FKJGP said.
The Federation also alleged that it had earlier given written requests on at least two occasions to the PWD besides issuing a deadline for repairing the road which ended on
January 22.
FKJGP, Nongstoin Circle general secretary Willis Syiem said, “It takes more than an hour to traverse along this seven kilometre road, not to mention the bumpy ride and the damage it causes to the vehicles.”
Earlier the authorities had attempted to repair the road by filling in the pot-holes with roadside debris. However, the same proved useless for the treacherous terrain which is frequented by heavy trucks carrying coal, timber and machineries.
The Federation has appealed to all the truckers and the NRLTODA to co-operate with the blockade as they were the ones who would be finally benefitted by the move.
