SHILLONG, April 20: The FlyBig is likely to restart its Shillong-Delhi direct flight services from May 2.
The FlyBig, which has been unable to restart its Shillong-Delhi direct flight services since last year, has agreed to operate their flights with strict schedule and no delays.
An official at the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has informed that the FlyBig recently indicated its intention to restart the flight services.
However, the AAI has clearly told the FlyBig that before restarting the services, they should not only give schedule of the flights but should also start the ticket-booking in advance.
“We have told them that they cannot lease an aircraft from some other company, operate here for few weeks and then go missing for months,” the official said.
The Flybig is scheduled to operate on Mondays and Fridays.
Earlier, Transport Minister, Dasakhiatbha Lamare on the floor of the House had candidly admitted that the government’s move to sign a deal with FlyBig to operate flight service on the Shillong-New Delhi route was a mistake and the department has learnt a hard lesson after spending over Rs 2 crore on the same.
The Meghalaya government has paid more than Rs 2 crore to FlyBig to operate 16 flights between Shillong and New Delhi ever since the services started in December 2020, prompting the Opposition to term it as a “failed project”.
Lamare had said FlyBig had procured an aircraft from SpiceJet on lease. The flight could not be operated after some time.
