SHILLONG, April 27: It appears that the LPG bottling plant in Ri-Bhoi district is going to be a reality after all, the High Court of Meghalaya observed on Wednesday while hearing a PIL in relation to distribution of LPG cylinders in Meghalaya.
The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) submitted that the tender process for land development and construction of the boundary wall is in progress for an amount of Rs 27 crore, according to the court order.
An application has been submitted to the District Forest Officer for permission of felling of trees at the site, the order stated.
There is no doubt that in lieu of such trees, new trees would be planted elsewhere, the High Court pointed out.
The IOCL submitted that a meeting has been held with the district authorities of Ri-Bhoi for issuance of a no-objection certificate for the project.
The crucial consent from the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board has also been obtained, it said.
The court order stated that the aforesaid facts would be incorporated in an affidavit to be filed in course of the day.
“In view of the above development, let the matter stand over for six weeks in the hope that the work would have commenced by then. The forest officials and the district officials are requested to look into the applications expeditiously and in accordance with law,” the High Court observed.
