SHILLONG, April 30: NCP state president, Saleng Sangma has expressed concern over reports that passengers are charged high fares by the local cabbies at the ISBTs in Shillong and Tura and sought Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma’s intervention.
He said travelling to Tura nowadays is cheaper than travelling to ISBT, Mawiong from Shillong.
He said patients, who come to NEIGRIHMS for treatment, are finding it difficult as the government has not fixed any rate for the cabbies. He said there are complaints that passengers travelling to Shillong from the ISBT are charged Rs 400-700. “The matter needs to be examined. When you go to Tura, you face a similar situation as ISBT, Tura is quite far from the town,” he said, adding the college students are suffering the most.
Sangma said he will also write to the Transport Minister. He said as the buses reach the ISBTs early and the passengers are scared of going out, there should be some provisions of security at the ISBTs. He also suggested that the buses drop the passengers in Shillong.
The ISBT, Mawiong was established to curb traffic snarls. As there is no shuttle service, the passengers are facing a lot of difficulties.
