SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Monday asserted that the State Government has allocated Rs 40 Crore during the year 2012-13 for construction of office complexes in the four new district headquarters.

While replying on the debate of Governor’s address, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that the Government after inaugurating the four new districts is now working towards consolidating the infrastructure in the districts.

While stating that the Government recognizes the aspirations of the people for new districts and sub-divisions, Chief Minister said that the smaller administrative units tend to be more efficient and effective.

He also said that the Government would examine the new proposals of districts and sub-divisions in a phased manner within constraint of resources even as he made it clear that the Government in the first instance proposes to re-organise the C&RD blocks. “There are some large blocks and these needs to be rationalised in terms of area, population and accessibility,” he said while adding that the Government has kept a provision for this in the budget for 2013-14.
