ASF claims lives of 56 pigs in two weeks

SHILLONG, May 4: The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department has informed that the African Swine Fever, ever since its recent outbreak in Meghalaya, has claimed lives of 56 pigs in last two weeks.
It may be mentioned that the first case of the disease was first reported from Umshorshor village under Umsning Block in Ri-Bhoi and was subsequently designated as the epicentre of the ASF.
Earlier, Principal Secretary for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department, GHP Raju, had also informed that the department has designated all villages falling under one kilometre radius of the epicentre as infected zone.
