SHILLONG, May 4: Days after its launch, the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project has announced a spate of busking and gigs for the month of May.
As per the calendar, the kick-off is slated for May 6 following which musical events will be organised at different cafes in Shillong, Jowai and Sohra.
In the state capital, events have been planned for locations such as Police Bazar, Laitumkhrah, Wards Lake, Golf Links, etc.
It may be mentioned that the state government has launched the project in a bid to recognise and promote musical talents as well as provide support to artistes for events outside the state.
Under this initiative, the state government also is supporting gigs and music shows in a bid to further leverage the music scene in Meghalaya.
“We conceptualised this programme to encourage and provide a platform to our musicians and link it up with tourism. We strongly believe that the youth of our state will be involved in this initiative. The project will give them the opportunity to unleash their musical talent,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had earlier said.
