SHILLONG, May 4: With no end to the suffering of people commuting to ISBT Mawiong from Shillong and vice versa, the Meghalaya government is likely to sit in “a couple of days” to engage in the matter of exorbitant cab fares charged from the passengers travelling on this route.
A government official on Wednesday said the Urban Affairs department has submitted a report to the state government on how the Shillong Public Transport Service (SPTS) buses were not allowed to ferry passengers from ISBT.
“This is an emergency-like situation and we will sit in a day or two to take a decision,” the official said.
Initially, the Urban Affairs department had started shuttle service from Polo to ISBT at a fare of Rs 30 per head.
In the absence of a shuttle service, people travelling on the Shillong-ISBT route are charged anything between Rs 400-800.
Recently, the cab fare was fixed at Rs 300 on booking basis, according to an order.
