JOWAI: Truck owners and drivers under the banner of the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners’ and Drivers’ Association (JHTOA) have expressed their concern over the rate of the transit challan for transportation of coal from Jaintia Hills to Assam.According to JHTOA president, Helping Phawa, the truckers have to pay Rs 8000 to Rs 9000 per truck of coal against Rs 7811 earlier. Phawa informed that he along with some members have enquired about changes in rate charges against royalty and sales tax at the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) and Sales Tax office.

“We were informed that there have been no changes to the existing rates. I wonder why we have to pay more than what the DMR and Sales Tax have specified,” he said.
