Demand for Labour Officer in EJH

JOWAI: The Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF) has demanded for the appointment of a full-fledged District Labour Officer in East Jaintia Hills District.

In a letter addressed to the Minister in-charge Labour department, Amrareen Lyngdoh, the JYF stressed on the urgent need for a District Labour Officer, in the newly created district.

“Prior to the creation of the new district, the Labour Department had set up its sub-office at Khliehriat. We demanded that the sub-office be immediately upgraded to a full-fledged office equipped with the District Labour Officer along with sufficient staff to deal with the issue of illegal migrants”, the JYF stated.

East Jaintia Hills, the coal hub of the State has attracted large number of inter-state migrants and also Bangladesh nationals who illegally entered the district in search of jobs.
