SHILLONG: Transport Minister HDR Lyngdoh on Thursday informed that the government is considering processing the release of the pending salaries of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) staff.

Replying to a question raised by Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP) in the House on Thursday, Lyngdoh said fund for the salary is expected to be sanctioned within this month.

Admitting that the government was aware of the woes of the MTC employees who have not received their salaries since December, 2012, the Transport Minister said, “The amount will sanctioned only after the full budget is passed in the Assembly.” Lyngdoh also informed that under the second phase of the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) in the MTC as many as 123 employees have opted for the same, but the payment of retirement benefits to these employees estimated at Rs 18.09 crore has not yet been sanctioned.

“The second phase of VRS is under process and the matter will be placed before the Cabinet after obtaining the views of the various departments concerned,” Lyngdoh added.
