More rainfall likely in state

SHILLONG, May 15: Meghalaya is likely to face more spells of inclement weather till May 19, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Shillong.
In a press statement issued here on Sunday, the IMD said, “Moisture incursion is very likely to occur due to strong lower level Southerly/South-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India during 4-5 days. Under its influence, fairly widespread/widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over the state during May 15-17, and heavy rainfall on May 18 and 19”.
According to the IMD, Amlarem with 335.5 mm recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, while Sohra, Mawkyrwat recorded 257.0 mm, Mawphlang 183.8 mm, Williamnagar 52.0 mm, Baghmara 95.8 mm, Khliehriat 210.0 mm, Nongpoh 14.1 mm, Jowai 291.0 mm, Shillong 41.0 mm, Barapani 20.4 mm, ICAR Umiam 11.0 mm, Mairang 10.5 mm, Tikrikilla 48.2 mm and Resubelpara 28.0 mm.
