Schoolkids sensitised on healthy habits

SHILLONG, May 21: Schoolchildren were on Friday sensitised about healthy habits during an ‘Outreach & Awareness Program on Health Hygiene & Sanitation’, organised jointly by the NSS cell and Department of Zoology of University of Science and Technology Meghalaya.
According to a statement, the programme was organised for students of Moonlight English Secondary School, Byrnihat.
“Schoolchildren were sensitised about the importance of washing their hands before and after eating, daily physical exercise, the importance of playing games and sports and inculcating other healthy habits to avoid falling sick,” the statement said.
As part of the programme, a special session on balanced diet, cleanliness, and maintenance of oral and personal hygiene was also conducted.
Educational charts on various topics for schoolchildren were also donated to the school.
“The children were asked to share their daily routines and the steps they took every day to maintain hygiene. A practice session on benefits of hand wash was also performed among the participants,” the statement informed.
Session on tax compliance
The USTM, in association with Income Tax Department, North East Region, also conducted an interactive session on ‘Importance of Paying Taxes and Ease of Tax Compliance’ on Friday.
According to a statement, the programme was attended by eminent personalities from the field of taxation.
“The programme also witnessed presentations by students on various aspects of Income Tax in India. A quiz was also conducted focusing on the theme of the programme. Students participated enthusiastically and won prizes for every correct answer,” a statement in this regard said.
