Shullai re-elected as Dy Speaker

 SHILLONG: NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai was declared elected as Deputy Speaker for a second consecutive term in the Assembly on Thursday.

Speaker AT Mondal declared Shullai elected to the post of Deputy Speaker unopposed.

Congratulating Shullai, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said his election without any opposition reflects the acceptability of the person. He hoped that the Deputy Speaker will be the link between the ruling side and the Opposition.

Senior UDP member Dr Donkupar Roy termed Shullai as a ‘fighter’ for the rights of the downtrodden and the neglected people of the society.

Congress legislator DD Lapang said that Shullai known as the ‘man of BPL section’ is acceptable to all and this is evident from his election to the post of Deputy Speaker unopposed.

James Sangma also congratulated Shullai. Speaker AT Mondal also joined in to felicitate his deputy.

In his written speech, Shullai thanked all the members of the House for their support and assured to uphold the dignity and decorum of the House.
