Twelve-day training on disaster response

Nongpoh, June 6: A twelve-day training of the first batch of community volunteers for the Disaster Response under the scheme Upscaling Aapda Mitra was launched by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, at the State Institute of Rural Development, in Nongsder, Ri Bhoi on Monday.
The function was attended by District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) K Wanniang, Consultant District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) M Kharkongngor, and Sub-Inspector Civil Defence S Syiemiong.
The twelve-day training programme with effect from 6th to 18th June 2022 has been organised by the District Disaster Management Authority, Ri Bhoi District with over 33 community volunteers from different localities have registered for the training so far.
Wanniang, in her keynote address informed that the training aims to provide the community volunteers with basic skills to respond during emergency situations.
She also informed that only five districts of the state have been selected for launching the Upscaling Aapda Mitra scheme, in which Ri Bhoi District with 100 community volunteers have been drawn from different villages including NYK, Homeguards, Civil Defence which will be trained under the scheme for disaster response.
The chief guest ADC cum CEO MB Tongper highlighted on the importance of community volunteers being the first responders in the aftermath of any disaster.
He advised the trainees to fully utilize the technicalities of the training to be capable of handling the community’s immediate needs in the future.
He further informed that after the completion of training, personal kits, protective equipment, emergency responder kits such as life jackets, first aid kits, and insurance along with certificates will be handed over to all trainees.
