SHILLONG: The Government will examine setting up of special courts only to deal with rape cases against women and children in the State.

While replying to a query on the ways and means to deal with the rape cases, Home Minister Roshan Warjri told reporters on Monday that the Government will examine the matter of setting up special courts for such cases.

The Government has already set up a special court in Nongstoin to specifically deal with rape cases.

Though the cases involving crimes against women are now being taken up by the fast track courts, they are not able to dispose of several pending cases and in this context, special courts to deal with rape cases can ease the burden of fast track courts.
