SHILLONG: The KHADC Executive Committee (EC) is scheduled to meet next week to discuss the proposed Delimitation Bill which has been lying in cold storage since 2008.

“We are going to meet next week to discuss the proposed Delimitation Bill,” KHADC CEM Pynshngain N Syiem told reporters on Friday.

The CEM also informed that the Executive Committee of the KHADC is currently examining the recommendations and changes proposed by the District Council Affairs (DCA) department which has returned the bill back to the Council.

“We have been given a ready-made format to use as reference while initiating the process of delimitation of the Council,” the CEM said.

Asked why it took so long to fine tune the bill, Syiem said that the EC would like to take into confidence all the MDCs and the stakeholders before taking a final call on the matter.

“We would want to take everyone on board so that there is no opposition at a later stage. I would not like the EC to be blamed later for not holding consultations before initiating the delimitation process,” Syiem said.

The KHADC CEM also reiterated the Council’s keenness to conduct next year’s MDC elections as per the delimited constituencies.
