Shillong, June 23: North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla was tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday morning.

Prof Shukla is currently admitted at Nazareth Hospital.

When contacted, official from Nazareth Hospital informed that the condition of the vice chancellor was stable.

It may be mentioned that Prof Shukla had attended the 8th International Day of Yoga 2022 programme organised by the University Yoga Committee and National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of the university as the chief guest on Tuesday.

A large number of teachers, non-teaching staff and students from different departments of the university along with NSS volunteers had also attended the programme.

After the news spread, students expressed concern that a large number of people had come into contact with Prof Shukla during the programme.

The students said that the worrying factor is that many who attended the programme did not wear the face mask.

When contacted, a Health official said that random testing has been done away with as per the new guidelines of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued in February.

He also informed that the new guidelines have also done away with contact tracing.
According to the Health official, they will need to find out if Prof Shukla is asymptomatic or symptomatic.
