Guv constitutes expert panel on water bodies

SHILLONG, June 24: Governor Satya Pal Malik has given his assent for constitution of an expert committee to guide the state government on measures to be taken for restoration and protection of water bodies.
The members of the expert committee include the principal chief conservator of forests as the chairman, chairman of State Expert Appraisal Committee Naba Bhattacharjee, Central Ground Water Board Scientist Dakhina Rabha, Arup Kumar Sarma of IIT Guwahati, Lake Conservationist from Bengaluru, Anand Malligavad, MTDF chairman Larsing M Sawyan and Zobra Z Laloo, chief conservator of forests (wildlife), the regional director of Central Pollution Board Shillong and member secretary of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.
The committee will advise the state government on measures to be taken for restoration and protection of water bodies in the state, chalk out long-term and short-term measures and use of latest technology and methods for cleaning and rejuvenating water bodies. It will also prepare an action plan for restoration of the water bodies.
