SHILLONG, June 29: Former South Tura MLA John Leslie K Sangma on Wednesday joined the BJP and spared no time in delivering a barrage of attacks against the saffron brigade’s rivals. Sangma had joined the party along with 12 others.
Stating that there is a barrier created by vested interest to paint the party as communal, he said, “I believe by working with BJP, I can take the message to the people that this is a misconception.”
Senior BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah MLA, AL Hek said that Sangma’s entry will usher in a paradigm shift for the BJP in the electoral battle. Hek maintained that with good leaders working to work with, the party should look towards achieving the ultimate goal of a BJP-led government post 2023 assembly polls.
State BJP chief Ernest Mawrie, meanwhile, said that he hopes more leaders will join he saffron brigade in the future while maintaining that their doors are always open for any leaders to join.
