SHILLONG: Armed with a court order, CID sleuths have sealed the CMJ University at Laitumkhrah on Thursday night, but not before some miscreants ransacked the office of the University.

According to police, the CID started investigation into the affairs of the CMJ University after the Governor’s Secretariat filed a case against the University.

Experts from the forensic department also assisted the CID.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been assigned the task of investigating into the alleged fraud committed by the CMJ University by awarding fake degrees to scores of students.

Sources said that CID has begun investigation into the matter following an FIR filed by the Governor’s Secretariat on Wednesday, and is presently collecting records of the University.

It is also reported that a team of four CID officials have left for Assam to investigate the role of some officials of some prominent colleges located in Guwahati having connection with the CMJ University.

Earlier, unidentified miscreants numbering around six to seven vandalized the office of the CMJ University on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the miscreants forcibly entered the CMJ office on Thursday afternoon and damaged four computers and office materials.

Additional SP (Crime) Vivek Syiem informed that the police have already started investigation into the matter.

“The miscreants have not been identified as yet,” Syiem added.

The University, however, filed an FIR against the vandalism.
