SHILLONG: The Achik National volunteer Council (ANVC-B) has asked the State and the Central Government to expedite the final peace settlement with the outfit and all its breakaway factions.
ANVC-B leader Rimpu Marak told The Shillong Times that the delay in finalizing the peace pact may lead to the possibility of emergence of other militant outfits.
“The earlier the solution, the better it is for ensuring peace in the State,” he said.
It may be mentioned that Norrok X Momin, who was earlier a part of the ANVC-B, deserted the outfit and formed the United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) recently.
The Union Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs headed by the Prime Minister is currently examining the final peace settlement.
The State Government is expecting a favourable outcome from the Centre within a month.
Meanwhile, Rimpu also claimed that the State Government was not taking proactive steps to financially help the 150 cadres who are currently stationed in the Tura camp.
“We are maintaining them with our own efforts without any help from the Government,” Rimpu said, while adding that he had taken a big risk by bringing all the cadres to sign the pact.
Rimpu also extended an invitation to Home Minister Roshan Warjri to visit the Tura camp and take stock of the problems being faced by the cadres who have come overground.
