AGARTALA: The CPI(M) in Tripura has allegedly launched malicious campaign against media and the leaders of the party openly called for public intervention in media activities.

The party leaders had been making ugly comments against media across the state followed by issuing threat by party state secretary Bijan Dhar.

Mr Dhar, in a press conference on July 12 last, said the security of media people would depend on their future performance, as they were found to be working in favour of the opposition Congress party.

Afterwards, CPI(M) leaders had been directly attacking the media persons in public meetings including government programme and accused them of being anti-social elements, land-grabbers, commission agents and bribe takers.

”Media is so deeply infiltrated by all kinds of criminal elements and law-breakers that police can hardly distinguish between the two,” said CPI-M frontline leader Samar Adhya on July 15 last in a party rally in Agartala

He was allegedly underlined that anti-Left campaign in media could only be stopped when public in general prevent the so-called media activities.

Assembly of Journalists’ in Tripura, a common platform of media professionals, non-journalists and media workers and newspaper hawkers has condemned the anti-media stand of the party and urged them to stop it. (UNI)
