SHILLONG: The hearing on the plea of the Education department to seek the extension for the Screening Committee to scrutinize the CBI findings on tampering of mark sheets of aspirants for the post of government teachers will be held at the High Court of Meghalaya on Friday.
Though the Screening Committee was constituted in August last, it could not proceed with the task as the Government did not provide the score sheets and other documents to the Committee.
The hearing will also be an attempt to seek the help of the Court to get the relevant documents which were not provided to the Committee.
The CBI had named the then Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh among other officials in the Education scam, but the Minister had denied her role.
The Division Bench of the Gauhati High Court had given six months’ time in August last year for the Screening Committee to complete the task of correcting the anomalies in the appointment of school teachers.
Since the Committee could not complete the task within February this year, the Education department filed a petition in the Court seeking extension of time for the Committee.
The Government dilly-dallied on the probe resulting in the delay on the part of the Committee to complete the task.
After the CBI unearthed large scale irregularities in the appointment of school teachers in the State, the Government instead of taking action based on the CBI findings, went ahead and filed a petition before the Division Bench for the constitution of the Screening Committee to further examine the matter.
Later, the Court in its hearing in August last asked the Education department to institute the Committee and submit the report within six months.
The three-member Screening Committee includes EP Kharbhih, Secretary, Education department as Chairman and CCM Mihsil, Joint Secretary, Education department and P Ryngksai, Deputy Director, Directorate of School Education and Literacy, as members.
