Business acumen
The secondhand clothes market at Police Bazar was a scene to behold on Sunday, only because of one vendor, who upped the game on his competition at the venue.
Over relatively farther distances, one could hear him shout: “Dus rupiya, dus rupiya. Pani ka bhaw, pani ka bhaw (10 rupees, 10 rupees. Worth a bottle of water).
No sooner had he began his sloganeering than people started to throng his store to pick the best clothes for Rs 10 only.
He was standing on the platform where he kept his clothes calling to customers drawing them in with his unorthodox slogans and of course the attractive offers.
After a significant number of people were lured in, he sets his eyes on others.
He makes it amply clear to passersby as well that the sale is unbelievably cheap and after they have taken interest in what he’s selling, he makes another move: “It’s Rs 10 for those already foraging for clothes, for those next in line it becomes Rs 20.”
With this, he gets their feet moving.

UNWONTED: A Shillong Public Transport Service bus clothes itself in an advertisement. This is perhaps the first time in Shillong that a government-run bus was displaying a commercial advertisement. (ST)
