SHILLONG, Aug 3: The state government’s plea for Rs 300 crore relief for downpour-hit Meghalaya is yet to be responded by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
It may be mentioned that the state government had in June sought financial package of Rs 300 crore from the Centre to reconstruct road and other infrastructure, and to arrange for relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the record-breaking rainfall. The request, however, is yet to be looked into by the Centre.
Informing that there has been no response from the central government over the matter, Commissioner and Secretary of Finance department Vijay Kumar D said,
“We are mobilising other sources and we will take up reconstruction immediately,” he said, informing that a detailed project report for reconstruction of the projects is already in place. Informing that memoranda are still being finalised, he said that initial estimate of the damages in the state was around Rs 400 crore.
He also informed that roads, bridges and water supply are being prioritised by the state government for urgent repair.
